During our COZY retreat in Healdsburg, we set time aside for a site inspection at NewTree Ranch. It became one of the most memorable parts of our weekend. Just minutes from town, the ranch unfolds across 120 acres of Redwoods and rolling hills. The moment you arrive, you feel the shift. Life slows down. There is space to reconnect, to pause, and to enjoy a kind of restorative luxury that feels rare.

A Story of Vision and Stewardship

NewTree began with co-founder Edward Newell, who purchased a small parcel of land in Sonoma while searching for a deeper relationship with nature. Over time, that vision grew into what is now a self-sustaining estate. Today, the ranch generates most of its own energy through solar panels, sources water entirely from its wells and lake, and supports projects in reforestation, bee rewilding, and biodynamic farming.

Together with co-founder David Rowntree, Edward shaped the land into a retreat where guests experience both the comforts of a private villa and the meaning that comes from living in harmony with the earth.

Villas and Lifestyle

Guests may choose between the Estate Villa and the Barn Villa, each offering modern interiors, expansive outdoor lounges, and thoughtful touches such as Frette linens, organic bath products, and kitchens stocked with fresh produce from the ranch garden.

The experience is as immersive as you want it to be. Some guests gather for seed-to-table dining with private chefs. Others walk the trails, join in the garden harvest, or take part in workshops led by sustainability experts. For quiet moments, there is a solar-heated pool, a Balinese tub open to the sky, and a Japanese tea garden that feels like a sanctuary within the estate.

Who Finds Their Way Here

Families come for milestone celebrations. Friends arrive for time together without distraction. Wine lovers appreciate the short drive to Sonoma’s vineyards, while still enjoying the serenity of the ranch. Inspiration seekers find a reset in the rhythm of nature. Animal lovers delight in the stables and the donkeys that live here. Green enthusiasts take part in learning about biodynamic farming and organic stewardship.

Why it Resonated with COZY

For our team, the visit felt aligned with everything we believe travel can be. It is not about how much you do but about the quality of each moment. At NewTree, details are intentional and the connection to the land is always present. It reminded us of why COZY exists: to help travelers discover places that feel personal, soulful, and transformative.

Looking Ahead

The ranch continues to evolve as a model for regenerative hospitality. Redwood trees are being planted, experts in conservation share their knowledge, and the team expands what sustainable living can mean. Guests become part of that story, leaving not only rested but also inspired.

Northern California by nature and soulfully incomparable.
