There are very few places left in Europe that still feel genuinely undiscovered.
The Faroe Islands are one of them.
Located halfway between Iceland and Norway, this remote North Atlantic archipelago is made up of 18 volcanic islands connected by undersea tunnels, ferries, and some of the world’s most scenic roads. More than dramatic landscapes, the Faroes offer something increasingly difficult to find: silence, authenticity, and a deep connection to nature.

This isn’t a destination built around museums, shopping, or checking landmarks off a list. Life here revolves around the weather, the ocean, and centuries-old traditions that continue to shape everyday life. Plans often change with the wind, and that’s part of the experience.
Over four days, we explored the islands through private experiences, exceptional local food, and meaningful encounters with the people who call this remarkable place home.
This is our COZY Guide to experiencing the Faroe Islands.
Where to Stay

Accommodation plays a significant role in how you experience the Faroes.
For travelers looking for complete immersion, we recommend renting a private villa. Surrounded by mountains, waterfalls, and open landscapes, it allows you to experience the islands on your own schedule. Waking up to sheep grazing outside your window, watching the changing weather roll across the fjords, and ending the day without another property in sight quickly become part of the journey itself.
For those who prefer staying in Tórshavn, Nólsoyarstova is one of our favorite boutique addresses. Set within a beautifully restored 18th-century wooden house, it offers just a handful of thoughtfully designed suites in the heart of the capital. Its location makes it easy to explore the harbor, cafés, restaurants, and galleries on foot while still feeling distinctly local.
Day One
Arrival & Local Flavours

After arriving at Vágar Airport, meet your private driver for the transfer to your villa or hotel.
Rather than filling the first day with sightseeing, embrace the slower rhythm that defines the islands. The drive itself introduces you to dramatic mountains, narrow fjords, colorful villages, and waterfalls that seem to appear around every corner.
Spend the afternoon settling into your surroundings, allowing yourself time to simply enjoy the landscape.

For dinner, reserve a table at Áarstova, one of the country’s most beloved restaurants. Located inside a centuries-old timber house in the center of Tórshavn, the restaurant celebrates traditional Faroese ingredients with refined simplicity. Lamb is the signature, although fresh seafood and locally sourced produce are equally memorable.
It’s an ideal first introduction to Faroese hospitality.
Day Two
Sea Cliffs, Hidden Landscapes & Home Hospitality

Weather permitting, begin the morning aboard a private boat exploring the dramatic coastline surrounding Drangarnir, the Faroe Islands’ iconic sea stacks.
Experiencing these formations from the water offers a completely different perspective. Towering basalt cliffs rise directly from the Atlantic while seabirds circle overhead, creating one of the archipelago’s most unforgettable landscapes.

If conditions allow, continue to Trælanípa, often called the “floating lake.” The relatively easy hike leads to an optical illusion where Lake Sørvágsvatn appears suspended hundreds of feet above the ocean. It’s one of the Faroe Islands’ most photographed viewpoints, yet still feels remarkably untouched.

In the evening, step away from the restaurant scene for a private home-hosted dinner in Tórshavn.
Sharing a meal with a local family offers an authentic glimpse into Faroese life, from culinary traditions and family recipes to conversations about living on one of Europe’s most remote island communities. It’s often these personal encounters that become the most memorable part of the journey.
Day Three
Nature, Wellness & Gastronomy

Begin the day at Leynar Spa, where wellness follows Nordic traditions.
Alternate between a cold plunge in the Atlantic, a wood-fired sauna, and outdoor hot tubs overlooking the coastline. The combination of sea, wind, and heat perfectly reflects the Faroese relationship with nature.

Later, visit Faer Isles Distillery for a guided tasting showcasing spirits inspired by local botanicals, sea air, and the islands’ distinctive climate. Beyond the tasting itself, it’s an opportunity to learn how modern Faroese producers are redefining the country’s culinary identity.

If time permits, continue to Saksun, one of the Faroe Islands’ most picturesque villages. Surrounded by steep mountains and overlooking a tidal lagoon that reveals a black sand beach at low tide, it captures the quiet beauty that has made the Faroes increasingly sought after by photographers and nature lovers alike.

Conclude your journey with dinner at PAZ, the newest restaurant from two Michelin-starred Faroese chef Poul Andrias Ziska.
Widely regarded as one of the leading voices in New Nordic cuisine, Ziska crafts seasonal tasting menus built almost entirely around local ingredients. Each course tells a story about the islands, making it one of the country’s most memorable dining experiences.
Day Four
Departure

After breakfast, enjoy a private transfer to Vágar Airport.
As with most journeys through the Faroe Islands, you’ll likely leave with photographs of spectacular landscapes. More importantly, you’ll leave with an appreciation for a destination that remains deeply connected to its traditions, its people, and the rhythms of nature.
COZY Tip

The Faroe Islands reward flexibility.
Weather changes quickly, and the most memorable moments often happen unexpectedly. Rather than trying to follow a rigid schedule, leave space for spontaneous detours, a scenic walk you hadn’t planned, an extra hour in a small village, or simply watching the clouds drift across the mountains.
Here, slowing down isn’t a compromise. It’s the experience itself.
