COZY recently spent time at The Joule while producing our recent COZY Humans profile featuring advisor Kherri Jean, founder of Full of Wander. The hotel quickly became a natural fit for the project. It carries the kind of atmosphere we often look for when deciding where to stay, work and create.

That connection to the city remains one of The Joule’s biggest strengths.

The property has remained one of the defining hotels in Dallas for years, with affiliations including Leading Hotels of the World and Forbes Travel Guide Recommended status, while staying closely tied to the city’s dining, cultural, and creative scene.

What feels most noticeable now is not that the hotel is trying to become something new. It simply feels more comfortable in its own identity.

The Rooms Feel More Comfortable Without Losing Character

The Joule recently unveiled redesigned West Tower guestrooms as part of a renovation completed with Tihany Design, the studio behind the hotel’s original opening in 2008.

The update spans 126 guestrooms across fourteen floors and changes the feeling of the hotel quite a bit. The darker palette is gone. In its place are warmer neutrals, soft blues, walnut finishes, textured leather, and layered fabrics that make the rooms feel calmer and much easier to spend time in.

Importantly, the hotel did not lose its personality.

The Joule still feels urban and design-focused. The rooms still have character. They just feel more comfortable now.

Custom walnut paneling, sculptural chairs, travertine finishes, and layered textures keep the spaces interesting without making them feel overly polished.

Art Still Plays a Big Role in the Hotel

One thing The Joule has always done well is treating art as part of the hotel instead of simply decoration on the walls.

That approach continues throughout the redesigned spaces.

Guestrooms and corridors feature black-and-white photographic diptychs curated by Bram Tihany, alongside photography centered around Dallas architecture across the public areas.

The Spa Has Become Part of Dallas Lifestyle Culture

The spa has become one of the strongest selling points of the property, especially among locals.

The space expanded with a new express facial bar and additional retail space. Guests also now have access to Byredo Gypsy Water bath amenities, in-room wellness requests through concierge, yoga programming at The Eye, and wellness experiences including Gua Sha masterclasses.

The wellness element feels integrated into the overall experience instead of operating separately from the hotel itself, which makes a major difference.

CBD Provisions Feels Like Part of the Hotel Again

One of the biggest updates happening at The Joule right now is the reopening of CBD Provisions.

Located directly off the lobby, the restaurant has long been one of the anchors of the property. Following a redesign and culinary refresh led by Culinary Director Sezer Deniz, the restaurant now feels much more aligned with how people actually want to dine today.

The menu still feels connected to Texas, but the dishes now carry more refinement across the board.

The Ancho Beef Bourguignon and Asado Short Rib are strong examples of that balance. Longtime favorites like the Pig’s Head Carnitas and Pimento Cheese Toast also remain, which was absolutely the right move.

The restaurant itself now feels warmer and more social throughout the day. Expanded bar seating, layered fabrics, vintage lighting, and communal tables bring more life into the space without losing the original character of CBD Provisions.

The COZY Perspective

A lot of hotels photograph beautifully but lose their atmosphere once you arrive. The Joule continues to feel lived in.

That is probably what keeps the hotel relevant after all these years. It is not trying to reinvent itself or chase a completely different identity. The recent updates simply make the experience feel warmer, more comfortable and more natural.
